PMU bars are sometimes strong places for a village. And to reward them for their efforts, a culinary guide has published a selection of 100 establishments scattered throughout France. In the Somme, the PMU bar in L’Étoile, a town of 1,200 inhabitants, is part of this list.

“I feel good here.“Carl regularly opens the doors of Rétro, the village bar of L’Etoile, in the Somme. This child from the village loves the atmosphere of this place still in the 70s and knows everyone. “And when I come to say hello, it can be a little long sometimes“, laughs the young man.
Since November 14, 2024, regulars have an additional reason to feel good in this bar. It includes the very first guide to 100 bars that make France, published by Le Fooding, bringing together the legendary addresses of PMU bars in France.
The fundamental strength of Rétro is based on exchange and the bar’s regulars have understood this well. “This proximity is cool“, says Rémy, a regular from the start. His friend Steven adds: “The owners are friendly and there is a good atmosphere. We remake the world, we talk about everything and nothing. This bar is the soul of the village.“

The warmth of the place is down to Amandine and Frédéric Caron, the owners for only a year. “This is what we wanted! We have our customers, it’s a successful project“, rejoices the manager.
The atmosphere of the bar and the decoration, always in its original style, seduced Fooding, a culinary guide. Among the 14,000 addresses, he selected Le Rétro among the 100 bars that make up France. “We have big cities nearby and we are a small country bar. It’s a distinction we didn’t expect. And when we found out, we were proud“, she explains, stars still in her eyes.
For the founders of this guide, this award also wants to congratulate the efforts of the couple, working every day. “What is very encouraging is to see young people who agree to take up a difficult profession. It’s great, that’s what we wanted to highlight with Le Fooding“, explains Paul-Henry Bizon, editor-in-chief of the guide. On this long list, only one other bar from the Somme joins the panel: the PMU bar Les Viviers in Canaples.
