The Aveyron department will return to orange level vigilance this Saturday, June 29. This will particularly concern Millau, Saint-Affrique and Nant.

He had encountered yellow storm alert several times in recent weeks: Aveyron will experience the next level, this Saturday, June 29, 2024. The department is placed on orange alert by Météo France.

From 12 noon to 6 p.m.

There will first be a yellow alert time, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., this Saturday, before the upper level is activated. According to the Météo France bulletin, the orange alert for thunderstorms will be present from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Aveyron, during this last Saturday of the month. The yellow level will then return, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

What forecasts?

The atmosphere will therefore deteriorate during the afternoon of June 29, when the whole of Aveyron will be affected by disturbed weather. The Météo France forecast map is quite explicit, speaking of storms for the west of the department, of a risk of storms for Rodez, Entraygues or Millau, and of thunderstorms in Laguiole, Salles-Curan, Saint-Affrique and Nant:

For the evening, Météo France is forecasting a still overcast sky, with thunderstorms in Nant and thunderstorms over a large eastern half of the Aveyron territory, in Laguiole, Sévérac, Millau but also Saint-Affrique, Salles-Curan and Entraygues. Showers are expected in the rest of the department.

A message from the prefecture

State services in Aveyron called for caution, speaking of “violent storms likely to cause more or less significant damage locally” and referring to “violent phenomena” which could be observed under these storms.

“We are particularly expecting heavy rain intensities of 20 to 30 mm/h, which could result in accumulations locally exceeding 50 mm during the episode. Some hail small to medium sized storms are also likely, as well as wind gusts that could locally exceed 80km/h,” warns the prefecture.
