Météo France has placed Île-de-France on orange alert for snow and ice this Thursday, November 21, 2024 but also for this Friday 22, following the risk of refreezing overnight. With the passage of depression CAETANO, a cocktail of cold and precipitation disrupts the region with snow and icy roads.
Unusually, it snowed in November. Weather France place 31 departments in vigilance orange “Snow, ice and winds” this Friday and Paris as well as all of Ile-de-France are part of it.
These low temperatures are caused by the arrival of the storm Caetano. France and the Paris region had a complicated day on the roads and in transport this Thursday. This meteorological phenomenon, caused by a depression crossing France from west to east, concerns a vast band going from Brittany to the Alps via Île-de-France.
Snowfall extended from Brittany and Normandy to Burgundy-Franche-Comté, as well as Corsica. Île-de-France has accumulated, 1 to 10 centimeters of snowa rare event in the capital at this time of year.
The Police Prefecture calls for caution and to activate the Snow and Ice Plan level 2 by limiting speed on the roads.
Snowfall complicates daily journeys, especially with icy conditions. Météo France warns of the high risks for road users, reminding that even light snow can transform the roads into ice rinks. In town, the situation is not much easier, with flakes likely to turn into patches of ice once the temperature rises.
This Friday, the alert concerns Aube, Calvados, Cher, Côte-d'Or, Doubs, Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Loir-et-Cher, Loiret, Manche, Haute-Marne, Mayenne, Nièvre, Orne, Haut-Rhin, Haute-Saône, Sarthe, ParisSeine-Maritime, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelinesthe Vosges, the Yonne, the Territory of Belfort, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and the Val-d'Oise.
In Île-de-Francethis alert requires increased vigilance when traveling. The authorities recommend limit non-essential journeys and allow more time to travel. Municipal teams are on alert to deploy salting on main roads, but secondary roads could remain dangerous.
