It has been almost 20 years since they hosted any activity. Unoccupied since the closure in 2006 of the Agip gas stationthe land located at 29 and 31, avenue de Castelnaudary – marking the corner of the extended avenue du Coude, at the entrance to the town of Revel – could however well find some usefulness.
This has already been the case for several weeks, the site located at the Lauragais roundabout having been transformed… into un parking! “We found it a shame not to use this space when it is at our disposal,” comments the mayor of the town, Laurent Hourquet .
A site which is part of an urbanization project
It was in fact shortly after his election, at the end of 2020, that the City acquired these two properties, which had long remained in their original state. industrial wastelandand considered, in fact, as urban warts . “We had played our right of pre-emptionin order to prevent a building from being built there, the city councilor reminds Voice of Midi Lauragais. But also because it was necessary for us to be masters of this right of way in view of our urbanization project for Avenue de Castelnaudary. »
But then, why not have transformed these two plots of land, which had become tarmaced and fenced wastelands earlier? “We were waiting to make progress on the Avenue de Castelnaudary file before we could take it up,” explains Laurent Hourquet. However, it seems complicated to embark, immediately, on this type of large-scale operation. »
A test to provide additional parking space
While waiting for the project to enter a more concrete phase, the municipality has therefore decided to restore utility to 29 and 31, avenue de Castelnaudary. “There was something there make low-cost parking . It cost us around €1,500,” confides the mayor.
In total, around thirty placesparking spaces – including one for people with reduced mobility and a few spaces dedicated to motorized two-wheelers – accessible from the extended Avenue du Coude are made available to motorists (free of charge). “The idea was to mark out this parking lot for see if people would use it. We're not used to testing things, but I thinkit can be good to give yourself the right to make mistakesto try. If it doesn't work, we'll go back. »
