This is one of the main surprises of these legislative elections. According to the final results provided by the Ministry of the Interior, the Renaissance MP Clement Beaune is eliminated in the first round. In the 7th district of Paris, it only accounts for 32.78% of the votes cast.
The former Minister for Europe and Transport and figure of the left wing of Macron’s party was beaten by Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy mayor of Paris to Anne Hidalgo, who was elected with 50.87% of the vote.
After the announcement of his defeat, Clément Beaune took a stand against the National Rally, calling for a vote against any candidate facing the far right in the second round. No ambiguity, no neither-nor. The political fact is that we have the extreme right at the gates of power, so we cannot afford to procrastinate,” said Clément Beaune. “So we must block everything.”
During the previous election in 2022, Clément Beaune won with 50.8% of the votes against lawyer Caroline Mecary who ran under the banner of the New Ecological and Social Popular Union.
