The mid-afternoon lull did not last in the Orne department. According to a point established at 4 p.m. by the Orne departmental council, traffic is classified as “impossible” on the secondary network of the cantons of Alençon and Carrouges. The snow falls continuously and causes traffic jams and incidents even in the center of the prefecture, in Flers and even in Argentan.

The main road networks are also affected but to a lesser extent, traffic conditions there are considered “delicate” or “difficult”. Heavy goods vehicle traffic has been banned on the A28 between Le Mans and Rouen.
Salting operations are still underway
In total, more than one hundred and sixteen firefighters, sixty-six gendarmes and a crew from the national police are involved in interventions. On both the national network and the main departmental network, salting operations are underway. Around thirty winter treatment machines hired by the departmental council since the end of the night have been continuously treating the main roads.
The Orne department is placed on Orange “ice snow” alert by Météo-France, until Friday November 22, at noon. Temperatures are expected to drop further overnight and cause icy conditions.
