La France Insoumise appeals to the judge for summary proceedings against Renaissance

Since the “anti-fake news law” of 2018, the judge must decide within two days if “inaccurate or misleading allegations or imputations of a fact likely to alter the sincerity of the upcoming election are deliberately disseminated”.

Insoumise France “initiates emergency proceedings for disseminating false information against Renaissance”warned Manuel Bompard, national coordinator of the movement, on X this Friday. This procedure is provided for by the law against the manipulation of information – known as “loi fake news» – voted in 2018. It allows the interim relief judge to be seized “during the three months preceding a national election” when inaccurate or misleading allegations or imputations of a fact likely to affect the sincerity of the vote are disseminated. The judge must decide within forty-eight hours.

The cause is the launch of a website, maretraitenupes.fr, by Renaissance, the presidential party. Gabriel Attal advertised it on France 2 yesterday evening during the debate that pitted him against Jordan Bardella, the nationalist leader, and Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the socialist party. “Mr Faure has just said that in the Nupes program there are 92% of French people who will not have a tax increase”he began. “But he talks about taxes, and then there are contributions. And there is the CSG. You propose in your program a measure that you call progressive CSG. he continued, supporting amendment.

Olivier Faure admitted that he wanted to impose this measure, which was rejected by the National Assembly. According to the Prime Minister, the application of such a measure would cause a significant financial loss for retirees. Thus, for a net monthly pension of 1,200 euros, the pension would be reduced by 792 euros per year. “Liars. This simulator is bogus. It doesn’t even allow you to enter your number of tax shares!”, reacted yesterday on X, Ian Brossat, communist senator from Paris. The simulator, therefore, is only relevant for a single person. The Socialist Party also regretted, on X, a tool “created to spread fake news”and assured that the figures are «faux».
