There will be no shortage of activities for the return of the Varennes public market after a year of absence. This will be held every Wednesday from July 3 to September 18, from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Polydôme and, for its grand opening, the first 500 Varen families will receive annual, perennial or herb plants.

“It’s a lot of work, but I’m very proud of the result!” The objective was to highlight Varennes and I think I succeeded in doing that. I received a very positive reception from the population and the merchants who told me that it created excitement around the market,” said organizer Geneviève Michaud, of the Association of Families of Varennes (AFV), an organization offering different types of services and activities to families.

She explained that at each market there will be 33 to 38 merchants and artisans present out of nearly 60 different merchants who will come on a regular or occasional basis. There will also be two markets dedicated to young entrepreneurs aged 8 to 17, on August 14 and 21.

Ms. Michaud added that entertainment is planned for children at all markets. Les Ateliers d’Alicia will offer them culinary workshops, crafts or interactive workshops. In addition, makeup artist Geneviève Picard will add a touch of magic for children and even adults on September 18.

“We will be holding the La buvette de l’AFV kiosk, where we will sell beers from Brasseurs du Moulin brewed specifically for Zone Bières and Urubu cider. All profits will go to the Association des Familles de Varennes,” she stressed.
A space for eating, resting or socializing, the Bistro du Marché, will be set up next to an entertainment area which will host digital cartoonist Yves Demers in turn (July 3); the dance troupe from Studio Sylvie Falardeau (July 10); demonstrations by members of Karate Sportif Varennes (July 24); performances from the Haute-range musical center (August 7); a show by the group Still to Find MTL (August 21); without forgetting culinary demonstrations by MasterChef Québec 2024 participant, Varennais Alexandre Lapointe.

“We are going to offer people the opportunity to have a loyalty card stamped for every $5 spent at the market. When they have 10 stamps, they can put it in a draw box on site. We will have nearly $4,000 in prizes and gift certificates to be drawn throughout the summer,” mentioned the organizer before inviting the population of Varennes and surrounding areas to visit the public market. .
