Météo France has just placed the Cantal department in vigilance ORANGE for risk wind from 13p.m. and up to 22h00.
A rain-snow disturbance accompanied by strong gusts of wind will cross the department today Thursday, November 21 and until the middle of the following night.
According to weather forecasts, the wind could be intermittently strong, on the Cantal mountains as well as in the plains (up to 110 km/h on the Cantal mountains and 100 km/h on the plains). Its intensity will evolve gradually during the day with a peak between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
As a reminder, the department is also concerned by:
– yellow vigilance rain-flood from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.: a mild spell at the end of the morning will transform the forecast snow into rain (around 10 to 40 mm in the plains and 50 to 80 mm on the Cantal mountains).
-yellow vigilance snow/ice between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. the next day. A new episode of cold is expected during the next night and will result in the formation of patches of ice on soggy roads following the day's precipitation.
The prefect has raised awareness among all municipalities of these risks, particularly during possible demonstrations on public roads. The prefect also invites users to be extremely vigilant, particularly during travel.
Possible consequences
- Power and telephone outages can affect distribution networks for relatively long periods of time.
- Roofs and chimneys may be damaged.
- Tree branches may break.
- Vehicles can be deported.
- Road traffic may be disrupted, particularly on the secondary network in forest areas.
- Some damage may affect electricity distribution and telephone networks.
Behavior Tips
