Departmental roads 974 and 164 which lead to the Géant de Provence, via the North slope (between the Mont Serein station and the Mont Ventoux summit), and by the south slope (between Chalet Reynard and the summit) are closed until spring 2025.
The Department of Vaucluse has closed these roads as a safety measure due to snowfall in mid-November and the arrival of the winter period.
The RD 974 will be reopened in spring 2025, subject to weather conditions, from April, for the southern slope (Chalet Reynard), and in May for the northern slope (Mont Serein) where the weather conditions are harsher.
Mandatory equipment to access Mont Ventoux
The Mont Serein and Chalet Reynard resorts remain accessible to vehicles throughout the year with necessary and obligatory equipment to access Chalet Reynard and Mont Serein in winter.
Until May 2025, all vehicles must have anti-slip chains or special tires approved and in compliance with current legislation, if they travel on the following roads:
- The RD 974 on the south side between the place called ''Saint-Estève'' in Bédoin and the barrier of the place called ''La Grave'';
- The RD 974 on the north side between the place called ''Le Groseau'' in Malaucène and the Mont Serein barrier;
- The RD 164, road from Sault to Chalet Reynard, between the place called ''La Reynarde'' in Aurel and the RD 164 / RD 974 crossroads in Bédoin
- The RD 164a serves, in a dead end, the Mont Serein station.
Chains will be obligatory, in case of snow, below and at the level of Mont Serein. If the equipment is not installed on the vehicle, it must be presented to law enforcement officers who can prohibit access to these sections of road to unequipped vehicles.
