Cycling and its 1,962 km of ecotourism El Dorado in Vaucluse

As master of ceremonies Cycle Meet 2024Vaucluse Provence Attractiveness (VPA), whose mission is to promote the territory, confirmed that the department is aiming for the title of “Land of ” and sets out its imperatives and priorities with the aim of multiplying daily use of the bicycle by five.

© Alain Hocquel/VPA – Cathy Fermanian, general director of Vaucluse Provence Attractiveness, brought together numerous public and private stakeholders around cycling to boost the sector in the department.

Vaucluse was presented as a territory on a human scale with many assets, “ at the forefront regarding professionals with the Accueil-Vélo label. But if the development of tourism is a major challenge, participating in the development of the bicycle industry also involves increasing the number of daily trips. »underlines Cathy Fermanian, general director of VPA

Projects and investment of the Department

First, reach 180 km cycle routes in Vaucluse compared to just under 160 km currently, by finalizing the Armeniers bridge in Sorgues, by extending the ViaRhôna on the island of Barthelasse, or the Via Venaissia in the center of and between Velleron and Robion, finally by developing the Calavon route in the sector .

In its multi-year investment plan (PPI), the department reserves a total investment of 25 M€ (excluding tax) over four years for future cycling developments, including 6 M€ dedicated to projects shared with intermunicipalities acting in favor of low-carbon mobility through the development of a bicycle plan.

Deployment of bicycle roaming around Ventoux

The Mont Ventoux Regional Natural Park targets a public in search of immersion, sensitive to the environment with the cycling project.

« This sustainable tourism axis can generate economic benefits local for the benefit of villages, culture, artisans, businesses and local products”, underlines Lise Collin, project manager for the PNR Ventoux.

The bicycle welcome label

To accommodate ecotourism, greenways or marked routes alone are not enough. The deployment of the “Accueil vélo” label contributes to the attractiveness of the region, each visitor being able to find accommodation, activities, stopover points, catering or service points. Vaucluse has 450 bike receptions, it is the densest network in the region.

Provence by Bike, the unmissable site

Supported by Vaucluse Provence Attractiveness, the “Provence by bike” site is aimed at locals and visitors alike and offers a multiple choice of destinations and landscapes, to cross with the family, in tourist immersion mode or at a more sustained pace, in sporty.

The tool, a facilitator, has the added value of being able to create a personalized itinerary with a heritage visit, swimming, event, meal stop or overnight stay. In addition to referencing charging and repair points, it informs in real time of any problems on the identified routes.

The Taf bike in question for the countries

The Pays d'Orange Community of Communes is getting closer to users and economic players to collectively reflect on its future program of actions to decarbonize daily journeys and is in contact with Saint-Gobain and air base 115.

“The idea is to define what that we can provide to the staff of these companies and station users to facilitate home-work journeys by bike”underlines Christophe Reynier-Duval, vice-president of the intercommunality and mayor of Caderousse.

Bike-train, bike-car intermodality, a lever for decarbonization

Intermodality makes it possible to connect two points in the same region by combining bike and train or bike and bus. The file is in the office of both the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, mobility operator, and that of the SNCF. The 147 Paca stations are already equipped with bicycle parking and Renaud Muselier, president of the South Region, has signed a performance contract with the SNCF.

Inflation and repair stations, charging stations and lockers are available to users in the most important stations. “To increase daily journeys, secure parking and services are essential issues. The region already has 3 000 places dedicated to cycling. On the carriage side, the TER trains have racks and locations. Some bus lines are equipped with either rear racks or a trailer,” specifies Rémi Dorne for the South Region
