“It doesn’t seem like it, but it’s heavy! I only weigh 40 kilograms”laughs Micheline Cazin, who lives in Lille. The exercise is simple: twice a day, Micheline goes out into her street, bottle of water in hand, and walks 200 meters.

“I always take the time to explain everything to passers-by because the first time I went out with my bottle, My neighbors said to themselves, what is this lady doing?jokes the one who was a professor at the faculty of pharmacy in Lille.

True sportswoman

She takes the Olympic torch relay entrusted to her very seriously. It’s just fun ! But I’m training, like I always trained for my competitions.”explains the one who has been practicing sport since she was four years old.

She has participated in numerous races and marathons, practices cycling intensely and has been a figure in university sportnotably being twice champion of France with one of its teams.

Take time

Some students continue to write to him: “I received a message from a former student who learned that I carried the flame. He said to me: “Mimi, you’re still so stainless.” That makes me very happy !”

Her family signed her up to carry the flame. And his application was accepted. “I was blown away when I heard about it! It is an honour, even if I remain modest.explains Micheline, who made caps for her relay with the words Mimi 2024 written on them. “I plan to distribute them to the public during my stint.”

No question of running. Oh no! I’m taking my time. It’s going to be an exceptional moment. I would say hello, hello to passers-by”she smiled, a little out of breath.

Left hand, right hand

During her journey, Micheline is careful to stretch out her arm. “It looks nice! And then, I alternate a little. Left hand, then right hand…” Once her walk is finished, Mimi takes the time to stop, the bottle in the air: I count ten seconds, time to light the torch of my successor. This moment is also important!”

Its bottle has become a real fetish object. “It’s always the same! I can invite my friends to drink it after my shift”jokes the one who plans to do a reconnaissance of the places in Douai, before the big day.

Can’t wait to touch the real torch

If you want to support Mimi, she will be a relay runner along the Quai Desbordes, around 5 p.m. on July 2, 2024.

Her only fear, she said, would be burning her hair if she raised her arm too high. But Micheline can’t wait to swap his bottle for the real torch. She confides: “When I pick it up, my heart will definitely beat faster!”
