Thursday, November 14, the region's elected officials met to mark the first symbolic stage of the rehabilitation and extension work on the Gramat gymnasium. Around Jean-Claude Fouché, president of the community of communes, and Michel Sylvestre, mayor Gramat, we noted the presence of Amel Tir, sub-prefect of Gourdon, Christophe Proença, deputy, Vincent Labarthe, vice-president of the region Occitanie, Caroline May-Fau, vice-president of the Lot departmental council, Freddy Terlizzi, departmental councilor and several municipal or community elected officials.
The renovation and expansion of the gymnasium aims to meet the growing sporting needs in the Cauvaldor region. The new facilities will offer modern and adapted equipment, allowing the inhabitants of Gramat, schools and local associations to practice their sporting activities in a quality environment.
Elected officials made the decision to equip the building with photovoltaic panels on the roof. This ambitious choice not only makes it possible to meet the energy needs of the gymnasium through self-consumption, but also to support the French sector. Indeed, the chosen panels are assembled in France, a strong commitment to promote national industry and encourage the energy transition. This responsible approach results in a higher cost of studies, but reflects the desire of elected officials to favor a sustainable and local solution.
Facilities for all ages and disciplines
More than 450 young people registered in sports associations in the region will directly benefit from this new space, as will adults and students from local schools. Among the main clubs concerned, the Gramat handball club (whose women's team plays in pre-national) and the Gramat gymnastics club, the only gymnastics school in Cauvaldor, will find facilities adapted to their needs in this renovated gymnasium. and their ambitions. Financial assistance was granted to clubs which, due to the work, had to move their activities to other facilities.
This funding will allow them to cover the transport costs generated by these trips.
“This new gymnasium, designed to be accessible to all, will help strengthen community ties around sport and promote an active and healthy lifestyle,” declares Jean-Claude Fouché. This project led by Cauvaldor represents a budget of €3,860,000 including tax. The financiers are Europe (€100,000), the State (€900,000), the region (€600,000), the department (€300,000) and the National Sports Agency (€150,000), the remains by Cauvaldor.
The mayor of Gramat was delighted with the creation of this equipment which “will allow sports to be practiced in ideal conditions.” “This is fundamental for living well,” underlined Caroline Mey-Fau. MP Proença recalled the role of Jean-Michel Chalade, who died too soon, in the development of sporting activities in Gramat. He deplored the decline in resources given to sport while efforts must be made for young people. In her speech, the sub-prefect recalled that “the State cannot do everything with a shared ambition in supporting equipment.”
