The Saint-Germain-Laval Maintenance and Operations Center (CD2E) underwent a major extension and renovation program in 2023. More than 1.2 million euros were invested. An update on this major project.

Twelve months of work were carried out between March 2023 and February 2024 at the Saint-Germain-Laval Maintenance and Operations Center (CD2E). Installed in the Grandes Terres activity zone, developed by the Community of Communes of Val d’Aix et Isable and located along the D8, the main mission of the center is to ensure the maintenance and management of departmental roads of the sector, which represents a length of 157 km over 11 municipalities belonging to the canton of Boën-sur-Lignon.

What work has been carried out?

The extension and renovation program consisted of building a salt shelter with a total capacity of 800 tons (including 100 tons of pozzolan), a loading dock and material huts. A brine plant was installed. The metal frame of the main building was reinforced. As for the garages, they were brought up to standard. Finally, an additional bay was created to accommodate a new living base composed of offices, changing rooms, etc. 1.2 million euros were invested.

23 road operating centers in the Loire

This work, which brought the structure up to standard, was inaugurated this Thursday, June 27. “This center constitutes an essential working tool for road officials” recalled the president of the Department Georges Ziegler, referring to “functional and quality equipment”. As a reminder, the Loire has 23 road operations centers and 285 mobilized agents.

What are the missions of this center?
They include several components, such as winter viability (between October 31 and March 31, with day and night monitoring of the network for snow removal and ice treatment), explains the Department. In spring and autumn, the center ensures the mowing of vegetation on the departmental roads in the area. At the beginning of summer, specific ragweed mowing helps combat this invasive plant. “Throughout the year, agents carry out sanitation campaigns as well as regular monitoring and maintenance of road surfaces and engineering structures in their management sector,” adds the community. During periods of high heat, the Saint-Germain-Laval center also spreads lime milk to treat the roads.
