She is an old lady from Toulouse, born in 1931, who had her facelift. The Alfred-Nakache swimming pool in summeron the Île du Ramier in Toulouse, has been reopened to the public since June 14. It will remain accessible until the end of August.

After several months of work carried out this winter, it can once again welcome swimmers in need of freshness. On the program for summer 2024, some new features.


Up to 9,000 swimmers

With its 150 meters long and 50 meters wide“it was one of the largest basins in Europe”, recalls Damien Console, director of sports at Toulouse town hall. Or the equivalent of “six Olympic pools placed side by side”. Children, for their part, can enjoy a large 900 m² paddling pool.

The Alfred-Nakache swimming pool can accommodate up to 9,000 swimmers at most. “It is not uncommon, when the weather is nice and warm and it is the weekend, to have up to 5,000 people.”

As time took its toll, some work was necessary to restore this privileged bathing site, whose Art Deco building is listed. to the Historic Monuments.

The work carried out

In order to save water, an operation was carried out on the treatment system “which dated from the early 2000s”. The filters were changed.

On the floor of the pool, due to the traffic, “some slabs have eroded, making cleaning difficult. To make them more comfortable, some of the slabs have been repaired.”

Visitors can also take advantage of the adjacent green spaces to play Mölkky or ball. “A stand is provided to be able to borrow equipment.”

Total investment amount? 250 000 euros.

New features in terms of accessibility

A change to note due to the work carried out to give birth to the future new green lung, the Grand Garonne Parkbathers will no longer be able to access the historic entrance to the swimming pool, on the north side, towards the tram stop.

“You will have to take the access from the Stadium side, to the south, the same as for Nakache winter. We are working on signage. »

Finally, for the comfort of cyclists, who have recently been able to use the new footbridges inaugurated this Saturday, June 22, additional bicycle parks for the summer have been installed.

A special ticket for hot days

As a reminder, the Nakache swimming pool is accessible in summer at a rate of 3.40 euros for residents of Toulouse (1.50 euros for those under 25, free for those under 7).

New for summer 2024, during heatwave days on orange alert, swimmers will be able to enjoy a single ticket for €1 giving unlimited access to all the swimming pools in Toulouse. It will be valid all day.

Larger study underway

Tomorrow, in addition to the swimming pool, the recognizable Alfred-Nakache building could undergo a major facelift. The town hall has launched a study to a more comprehensive restoration of the building. The rendering is expected after the summer season.
