The Swiss population is mainly well disposed towards LGBTQIA+ people, according to a study published on Wednesday. However, prejudice and intolerance persist in certain sectors of society, particularly towards transgender and intersex people.

According to the gfs.bern survey, commissioned by Amnesty International, Queeramnesty, Dialogai and the umbrella associations TGNS, InterAction, Pink Cross and LOS, the majority of the population has sympathy and understanding for homosexuals, lesbians and bisexual people.

This tolerance, however, decreases for trans or intersex people. Reluctance and prejudice are clearly more pronounced against them, notes gfs.bern.

One in three people in the LGBTQIA+ community say they have experienced violence. This level of violence and discrimination is higher in Switzerland than the European average. As a result, organizations are calling for urgent protective measures.
