Three years after launching the Internet Computer, Dfinity unveils Utopia, a serverless private cloud platform touted for its unique security and resilience properties.
The Swiss German firm Dfinity is once again making headlines, three years after the launch of its decentralized computing platform called Internet Computer, presented from the outset as a cloud 3.0 based on the principle of blockchain.
Dfinity has just announced Utopia, an acronym for “Unstoppable Tamperproof Open Platform for Independent Autonomy”. Described as a serverless private cloud platform, Utopia would benefit from unique security and resilience properties. The platform is based on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), a decentralized network which, according to its designer, has never suffered a breakdown or hack after three years of activity. Architecture devoid of a central server, the computing power is provided by a network of individual servers distributed throughout the world.
Utopia thus offers companies and governments the possibility of deploying systems and services independent of traditional cybersecurity technologies, such as firewalls and anti-malware software. With its open source software, the platform allows the design of private cloud platforms while maintaining control of data and infrastructure sovereignty.
“Businesses and organizations are skeptical of traditional cloud services because they have to trust them with sensitive data. UTOPIA offers a next-generation private, sovereign cloud that can be operated using hardware in its own country and has revolutionary security features,” said Dominic Williams, founder of the DFINITY Foundation.
