Saly-Portudal – improvement of conditions of access to dialysis kits: the Minister of Family gives the Minister of Health a check for nearly 3 billion

The conditions of access to dialysis kits were the subject of a workshop that began yesterday, Thursday, in Saly-Portudal, in the presence of Maimouna Dièye, the Minister of Family and Solidarity and Ibrahima Sy, the Minister of Health and Social Action. The meeting focused on improving the care and treatment of patients suffering from renal failure..

The Minister of Family presented the Minister of Health and Social Action with a check for nearly three (3) billion CFA francs. This is part of the management of dialysis activities between the SEN PNA and the SEN CSU. According to the Minister of Family and Solidarity, multi-sector collaboration is a key element of success. She sees cooperation between their two ministries as crucial to achieving goals. Thus, the government of Senegal gives an important place to social protection, as part of systemic transformation. Regarding the reforms to be undertaken, success depends on the cooperation of all players in the sector, collaboration between ministries, agencies, health service providers and civil society organizations. According to her, “Dialysis is a life-saving treatment. For people with kidney failure, this treatment is essential and a matter of survival.”.

The financial stakes related to dialysis are enormous. Thus, the individual costs, per patient, would amount to 10 million CFA francs per year, in the private sector, very expensive for many Senegalese families. Social consequences are recorded among patients supporting them. Cost optimization and the search for solutions remain an imperative. Indeed, her vision remains to see the significant resources invested by the State be the subject of remuneration in an equitable and fair manner. The aspiration is seen as an advantage allowing a greater number of patients to benefit from dialysis sessions in a sustainable and lasting manner. This desire is part of the dynamic of no longer leaving a part of the population without help in the face of health issues. The approach justifies, for her, the attachment of the Senegalese Agency for Universal Health Coverage to the Department of Family and Solidarity. According to her, this option aims to guarantee each citizen social and health services for their well-being.
