Dakar, Nov 20 (APS) – The Senegalese coach of the Aigles de la Medina (Senegal) women’s Football team, Mbayang Thiam, is preselected in the coach of the year category of the CAF Awards 2024 scheduled for December 16, 2024 at Marrakech, Morocco, APS learned Wednesday from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) made public.
The Senegalese team of Aigles de la Medina is also selected in the club of the year category.
The Confederation of African Football unveiled, on Wednesday, the lists of players preselected for the seven women’s categories of the CAF Awards 2024, rewarding the best African sportswomen of the past season.
Ten players were preselected in each of the seven categories. They are the African player of the year, the interclub player of the year, the goalkeeper of the year, the coach of the year, the national team of the year , Club of the Year and CAF Young Player of the Year.
In the coach of the year category there is a Senegalese woman. This is the coach of the Aigles de la Medina (Senegal), Mbayang Thiam. She led the first Senegalese team to participate in the Women’s Champions League. The team based in the Medina district of Dakar stopped at the group stages. She conceded nine goals without scoring any.
Mbayang Thiam is also the coach of the Senegal women’s national under-20 team, winner of the Union of West African Football Federations (UFOA/A) zone A tournament, in the category, in last May.
The CAF Awards 2024 concern the period from January 2024 to October 2024.
