A great architect of AJ Auxerre’s rise to Ligue 1, Elisha Owusu has extended his contract by three years with the French club, until 2027.

Ghanaian midfielder Elisha Owusu has extended his contract with AJ Auxerre until 2027 after playing a crucial role in helping the club return to French Ligue 1. Despite the Auxerre outfit’s relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season, Owusu’s outstanding performances played a crucial role in the team’s successful Ligue 2 campaign. His contributions helped Auxerre lift the Ligue 2 trophy and secure promotion to the top flight for the 2024/25 season.

“Excellent news for AJA: Elisha Owusu extends his contract until June 2027! Our vice-captain, a major contributor to the promotion to Ligue 1 with 33 matches played and an unforgettable goal in the derby victory against Troyes (2-1), therefore ties his future to that of the club “, AJA wrote in a statement.

Owusu joined Auxerre in January 2023 but was unfortunately sidelined due to a serious injury, initially preventing him from playing in Ligue 1. However, his determination and positive attitude saw him make a strong comeback, contributing significantly to the team’s promotion campaign. His performances also earned him a call-up to the Ghana national team for the last Africa Cup of Nations, where he played alongside teammate Gideon Mensah.
