Christelle Morançais, president of the regional council of Pays de la Loire (Horizons), announced a severe reduction in cultural aid, to be planned in the 2025 budget. The regional president foresees 100 million euros in savings in the budget of the community, more than the 40 million euros requested by the government.
The announcement worries the world of culture including Le Kiosque, the Mayenne community cultural action center. Valentin Lemée, its director, even says “angry at the violence of this decision”.
An impact on residences
The association receives around €60,000 from the Region each year. “It’s around €15,000 for Croq’les mots marmots! therefore 15% of the event budget”, develops Valentin Lemée. 30% of the artistic budget of the contemporary art center (€15,000) also depends on the community. For live shows, departmental subsidies represent around €30,000. “The artistic presence, with the residencies, will necessarily be impacted”, assures the director.
Valentin Lemée denounces a “brutal disengagement with culture in a disproportionate way”. He concludes: “We are being let down. »
An assembly of cultural actors will take place Tuesday in Laval.
