The famous shell will be in the spotlight. It can be enjoyed in all its forms.

Grau-d’Agde will be celebrating this Saturday, June 29, with a flagship event “La fête du pointu”. For this eleventh Pointus Festival, music and tasting will combine to bring visitors and locals a real moment of happiness and sharing.

“Last year we welcomed over 1,000 people, this morning is very popular, there are people who book from one year to the next to be there”explains the new Grand Master of the brotherhood, Nicolas Odul.

300 kilos of molluscs and 13 restaurateurs

This event takes place, like every year, on the last Saturday of June and promises to delight everyone’s taste buds. Organized by the association “La confrérie des pointus” and the village’s partner restaurateurs, this long-awaited tasting will highlight “pointus in different variations”. Restaurateurs will indeed demonstrate their different ways of cooking this shellfish. The public will be accompanied by the brotherhood, with their colorful outfits as well as a peña, who will ensure the atmosphere.

The pointu shell is a specific variety of shell belonging to the family of muricidae, it takes its name from its distinctive pointed shape at one of its ends. These shells are found primarily in warm, temperate waters, usually near rocky coasts or in coral reefs.

The “pointy” shell is valued not only for its natural beauty, but also for its use in crafts and jewelry. Shells of this species can have a variety of colors, from pearly white to deep purple, making them prized pieces for creating jewelry and decorative objects.

On a practical level, 13 restaurants will share the 300 kg of molluscs and will offer local dishes with their own recipe based on this local product, pointu.

The tasting will start at 10am and will run until noon. Tickets will be on sale around 9:15am on Place des Mûriers. Enjoy your tasting!
