Commerce: ever-increasing demand

Sales professions, whether sales advisors or dedicated customer advisors, continue to prosper. In addition to digitalization, human interactions remain essential. By 2030, sales professions are expected to be among the main job creators, ranking in fourth place*.

“All sectors, from industry to banking, including distribution, will always need these skills, with a level of technicality that continues to increase,” explains Patricia Ehl, head of the technical marketing department.

Quality and control: pillars of the industry

In the field of industrial production, optimization and control of manufacturing processes are essential, as non-conformity on a product can lead to the paralysis of an entire production line. The IUT of Metz offers training in the field of metrology, focused on quality management, and reserving a large place for the mastery of instrumentation and measurement techniques.

Philippe Thevenin, head of the Physical Measurements department, emphasizes: “Companies are constantly asking us to recruit competent metrologists and instrument makers, and we are not able to meet all their requests! The reason? For the entire Grand Est region, training is only provided in Metz, Strasbourg and Reims.”

Industry 4.0: digitalization simulation, sustainable production and innovation

Pierre Pino, head of the mechanical and production engineering department (GMP), details the training offered: “We have three main courses, centered on digital simulation-virtual reality (SNRV), sustainable production design (CPD) and industrial innovation (2I – 3D Metal printing). » Students learn to design and build complex systems for sectors such as aeronautics, medical and automotive. Lorraine, rich in its metallurgical tradition, thus becomes fertile ground for these new technologies. For example, the CPD (Sustainable Design and Production) course trains students to master all stages of the design of a product, from its manufacturing to its environmental impact.

“We teach life cycle analysis (LCA), an essential skill for integrating sustainability by design,” explains the teacher. This approach helps train professionals capable of thinking globally and acting locally, improving both costs and environmental impacts. At the same time, students understand the fields of robotics and cobotics.

In Metz, they learn to use these technologies in new sectors, integrating sophisticated numerically controlled machines to optimize manufacturing times. “We train senior technicians capable of working with robots, machining centers in modern production environments,” says Pierre Pino.

Data Science: The Future of Predictions

With the proliferation of data, data science is becoming a key field. Alain Gely, head of the data science department, explains: “We train students to interpret data to extract useful information, applied to many fields. »

The skills in mathematics and statistics, specific to the IUT of Metz – at the start of the course – allow them to specialize in predictive maintenance and other innovative applications.

IT: cross-disciplinary skills

The IT department of the IUT of Metz trains developers, system and network administrators, as well as database managers. The training offer is comprehensive, allowing students to adapt to the varied needs of the market.

Management professions: social and solidarity economy and corporate social responsibility

The business and administration management department trains the managers of tomorrow by integrating its lessons into the environmental, managerial and societal issues at stake for the future. The generalist approach to management allows us to have a global vision of the functioning of organizations. Digital transformation and the integration of social and environmental transition also make it possible to train responsible managers who are aware of societal issues.

Hervé Blasselle, head of the GEA department confirms: “Thus, green finance, social and solidarity economy, e-recruitment, sustainable performance management, digitalization are all challenges that students are trained to better understand the challenges of a changing world. full mutation. »

An environment conducive to innovation

The IUT of Metz is not only distinguished by its training, but also by its stimulating environment and cutting-edge infrastructure. Students benefit from an exceptional setting, with modern laboratories and solid partnerships with local industries.

“Our practical and collaborative approach, in partnership with renowned companies, guarantees that our graduates are not only competent, but also ready to innovate and meet the challenges of tomorrow,” adds Nathalie Allain, director of the IUT.
