What will be the impact of climate change on the Lot region, its inhabitants and their activities? And how to prepare for it? These questions, which have become central, led the Lot Department to carry out a diagnosis of vulnerabilities, in partnership with CEREMA (Center for studies and expertise on risks, the environment, mobility and planning) . This is a study which makes it possible to cross-reference projections on the climate of the Lot in 2050 with the particular characteristics of the territory (elderly population, sparse housing, natural risks, etc.) which make it more vulnerable to the effects of climate change. , based on the notion of impact chains. In order to share these issues widely, the Department offers a fun approach with a card game inspired by the “Climate Fresco” which is made available by clicking here.

The Department has developed with CEREMA a card game to facilitate a workshop “Fresco of the vulnerabilities of the Lot to climate change”.

The workshop – lasting 1.5 to 2 hours – is based on a game of 24 thematic cards organized into 3 main families: climatic parameters and natural risks, natural environments and ecosystems and finally life and activities in the Lot.

The rules of the game? Participants are first invited, in small groups, to read the cards and position them on a poster by linking them in a cause-consequence logic to create a fresco. Then based on the vulnerabilities identified, a 2th sequence allows you to begin thinking about the actions to take and the levers to activate.

The objective? Popularize, facilitate understanding of the diagnosis and make as many people as possible aware of the vulnerabilities of the territory and the need to prepare for its adaptation to the inevitable effects of climate change.

“The Vulnerabilities Fresco allows us to approach a major subject in a fun way and to exchange with the population in a participatory way,” explains Catherine Marlas, vice-president of the Department in charge of Ecological and Energy Transition and Housing.

A success with the general public

The card game was successfully tested with the general public during participatory workshops – organized by the Department in June 2024 – to share these issues more widely and allow residents to prepare and adapt their way of life.

Professionals, local elected officials, young people and seniors also played there as part of the “Lot en transitions” event: a series of activities around the issues of climate change which took place from September 21 to October 12 2024.

Furthermore, as part of the 2024 cohesion days, all Department officials were able to discover this educational game and work on courses of action to integrate these crucial issues into the various departmental policies.
