The Mayenne social grocery store, managed by the Mayenne association for integration (AMI), organizes its annual collection of foodstuffs and products in seven supermarkets and stores in Mayenne. It takes place as part of the national food bank collection, the last weekend of November.
“In Mayenne, the food bank is located in Laval and supplies us in part every Friday, explains Philippe Lambert, president of the social grocery store. The collected foodstuffs will be stored and managed in Laval. In general, we harvest around 6 tonnes in Mayenne and 60 tonnes in the department. »
“Collect as many products as possible”
Nearly 70 volunteers will carry bags at the entrance to stores on Friday and Saturday. “We need everything, says Philippe Lambert. We look for a lot of food – cans, rice, pasta, coffee, etc. – and hygiene products, especially for babies. »
For two days, “the goal is to collect as many products as possible to redistribute them to vulnerable families”, indicates the president. “In terms of social grocery shopping, we distributed 42 tonnes in 2024. You have to have them! Our food comes from the food bank, from our own purchases or from private collections. »
Other structures will support volunteers and beneficiaries of the social grocery store in Mayenne: the Rotary club, Secours catholique, Emmaüs, the Red Cross and the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul society, with the entire school Don Bosco. Companies will provide vehicles to transport the products to the Laval food bank.
Friday November 22 and Saturday November 23, between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., collection from seven stores and supermarkets in Mayenne.
