How could the drinking water of three municipalities in South Vienna have been contaminated by a bacteria that is usually found in wastewater due to fecal matter?

The question remains unanswered, and, for the moment, everyone is mainly waiting for the results of the counter-analysis in progress. It is the rule.

Contaminated water taken on June 21 at the Romagna town hall

“Contamination is not confirmed at this time. New analyzes must be carried out by the ARS. In the meantime, as a precaution, water must be boiled before consumption (cooking, drinking, hand washing) among residents of the municipalities concerned.Eaux de Vienne tells us again.

It was on Wednesday, around 4 p.m., that residents received an alert SMS which left them hungry. “ It just said Water Consumption Alert, your water must be boiled before drinking,” a resident shows us on his phone.

This alert SMS was received by residents of the area concerned.

The letter from Eaux de Vienne posted in the town hall specified the existence of bacterial contamination which did not appear on the alert posted on its site.

You have to look for the prefectural decree to find out a little more and find the mention of a “significant microbiological contamination of network water” with a “imminent risk for the population if tap water is consumed”.

Waiting for a response from the ARS

This Thursday morning, we contacted the regional health agency to find out what the concentration was found in each of the three control points and when the results of the new analyzes would be known.

The standards provide for the total absence of E. coli bacteria in drinking water, but 80 E. coli per 100 ml of water have been recorded. “The Ministry of Health considers that contamination is significant from 10”the ARS tells us.

The contaminated sample was taken on June 21 at the Romagna town hall. The results in the two other municipalities and the counter-analysis of Romagna are expected this Friday, June 28.

Water pumped in Champagné-Saint-Hilaire

The contamination of Romagna was discovered on Wednesday. Several samples were then taken “at various points, including the water treatment outlet”indicates the ARS.

The drinking water that supplies the local committee of Romagne comes from a free water table catchment located at the Patural des Chiens, in Champagné-Saint-Hilaire. A catchment whose water is treated by chlorination.
