The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honorable Mélanie Joly, announced today that Canada is imposing additional sanctions under the Regulation on special economic measures targeting extremist settler violence.

This series of sanctions targets seven individuals and five entities for their role in facilitating, supporting or financially contributing to acts of violence committed by extremist Israeli settlers against members of the Palestinian civilian population and their property.

Acts of violence by extremist settlers have resulted in loss of life and damage to Palestinian agricultural land and property. These attacks have also caused the forced displacement of Palestinian communities, thereby contributing to insecurity for both the Palestinian population and the Israeli population in the West Bank.

Attacks by extremist Israeli settlers, which have long been a source of tension and conflict in the region, undermine the human rights of Palestinians and the prospects for a two-state solution, and pose significant risks to regional security.

Here are the seven people targeted by these sanctions:

  • Ben Zion Gopstein
  • Daniella Weiss
  • Einan Ben-Nir Amram Tanjil
  • Elisha Yered
  • Ely Federman
  • Meir Mordechai Ettinger
  • Shalom Zicherman

Here are the five entities targeted by these sanctions:

  • Amana
  • Hilltop Youth
  • Lehava
  • Moshe’s Farm
  • Zvi’s Farm

Canada continues to oppose the expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and is committed to promoting a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
