The Senegalese government once again expressed its solidarity with the authorities of Burkina Faso and praised their efforts in the fight against terrorism, following a demonstration by activists in front of the Senegalese embassy in Ouagadougou. In a press release from the Senegalese Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs published on Wednesday, it is emphasized that “the Senegalese government reaffirms its solidarity and recognizes the efforts of the Burkinabe government in its determined fight against terrorism and its efforts to restore territorial integrity. »

This position was reiterated after a sit-in organized Tuesday by members of the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations of Burkina Faso in front of the Senegalese embassy in Ouagadougou. The objective was to deliver a letter of protest to the Senegalese ambassador to Burkina Faso, according to the Senegalese government’s explanations. This specifies that neither the diplomatic staff nor the premises of the Senegalese embassy were threatened, as were the Senegalese citizens residing in Burkina Faso, who go about their normal activities.

This demonstration followed a rally in Dakar organized last Friday by the Senegalese Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (COSEDDH) and Amnesty International, which sparked a reaction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabé from outside Burkina Faso. The Senegalese government emphasizes that this reaction in no way accused Senegal of interference in the internal affairs of Burkina Faso.
