A new chapter for Honda in Canada

A strategic investment of $1.38 billion

Objective: 100% electrified vehicles by 2040

Honda has officially launched production of the 2025 Civic Hybrid in Canada. This is the first time that this iconic model has been manufactured on Canadian soil, a major milestone taking place at the Honda plant located in Alliston, Ontario.

This important milestone stems from a substantial investment of $1.38 billion, initiated by Honda in 2022 to strengthen its production capabilities in Canada. Now, the Alliston plant has become the main production site in North America for the CR-V and Civic Hybrid models.

Jean Marc Leclerc, President and CEO of Honda Canada Inc., said: “Honda of Canada Manufacturing is a great story of Canadian innovation that is strategically investing in technology and its people in preparation for electrification. Companies like Honda face great complexity and challenges as we evolve and transform our business toward an electrified future. We’ve already accomplished a lot, but we still have a ways to go until battery and fuel cell electric vehicles represent 100% of our vehicle sales in North America by 2040.”

Honda Canada Manufacturing’s two production lines in Alliston are now capable of manufacturing hybrid vehicles. Honda predicts that the Civic Hybrid will represent 60% of Civic sales in Canada. In addition, Honda is also planning to build an electric vehicle battery factory in Alliston, with a view to producing cells for its future electric vehicles.
