ArcelorMittal's Denain (North) and Reims (Marne) sites are under threat of closure due to a significant drop in activity.
The announcement was made by the steel group this Tuesday, November 19, in front of employee representatives: ArcelorMittal is considering the closure of two sites, in Denain (North) and Reims (Marne).
Together, these two sites account for 130 jobs, including around thirty in Denain, near Valenciennes.
According to a press release published this Tuesday evening, “the management of the company ArcelorMittal Service Centers brought together the members of its CSE in order to inform them of a project to reorganize the company and adapt its production capacities. This project includes the possible shutdown of the production sites ArcelorMittal Service Centers in Reims and Denain“. A decision which would be linked to a “difficult economic context“, particularly among industrial and automotive customers.
The steelmaker indicates that “ negotiations with trade union organizations will take place on social measures in order to limit the impact on employment“.
This announcement confirms the recent fears of the Minister of the Economy, Antoine Armand. Who declared, at the beginning of November, that “the entire industrial sector is facing an extremely difficult situation“and said he expected”more bad news” after Michelin and Auchan announced site closures and layoffs.
