To celebrate the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, the Monnaie de Paris has created new coins presented this Tuesday, November 18.
The Paris Mint presented this Tuesday, November 19, its new coins created for the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, with the aim of establishing a “dialogue” between numismatics and heritage.
“We had to dedicate our collection to Notre-Dame,” explained Marc Schwartz, CEO of the institution, during a press conference, less than three weeks before the reopening of the masterpiece of Gothic art. , ravaged on April 15, 2019 by a fire which led to more than five years of renovation work.
In silver or gold, these pieces pay tribute to the know-how mobilized for this reopening, scheduled for December 7 and 8, and are the result of two years of work.
A sale price set at €155,000
The most precious piece, made of one kilogram of pure gold, represents the cathedral seen from the front, topped with a rose window, echoing the stained glass windows of the building. With a face value of 5,000 euros, it is available in 24 copies, with reference to 2024, with a sale price set at 155,000 euros.
“Through this collection, a real dialogue is established between the 'numismatic conservatory' and the 'heritage conservatory'. Each institution brings its history, its trades and its ancestral gestures carried out through the centuries”, noted the institution on its website.
An organization entirely financed by its activity, the Monnaie de Paris had already made its mark this year by manufacturing the medals for the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
