Parades, film screenings, official ceremonies… the program of celebration of the release of Colmar was unveiled by the city a few days ago.
The activities will take place early February. “The commemoration of this 80th anniversary is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to those who fought for our freedom, to pass on history to future generations and to share our memories. This is why this program was designed to include as many people as possible,” explains the city.
Most events will be heldt on Sunday, February 2.
A parade over two days and 60 vehicles
Here is the program concocted by Colmar:
- On February 2, the official ceremony will take place in the presence of the liberating units and heirs of tradition. “No less than 300 soldiers will be present including the 152nd infantry regiment and the 1st parachutist fighter regiment (RCP). The 3rd United States Infantry Division, which is one of the infantry divisions of the United States Army (US Army), will also be present,” specifies the organizers. The ceremony will close with a parade on foot and motorized by the liberating units as well as the heirs of these traditions, avenue de la République, rue Kleber, rue des Clefs and rue Vauban.
- The fields of Mars and Place Rapp will see food trucks, makeup stands and photo exhibitions set up on February 1st. A giant screen will broadcast images between January 31 and February 2.
- On Friday January 31 at 2:30 p.m., Colmar schoolchildren will experience a ceremony organized for them.
- Two shows will be organized by the Harmonie Colmarienne: they will be held on Saturday February 1 at 5 p.m. and Sunday February 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the Municipal Theater.
- On Friday January 31, still at the theater, a spectacle named Liberty swing, big band will take place.
- Saturday February 1 at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday February 2 at 11:30 a.m. in the Catherinettes room, freedom meal, which will immerse the public in the liberation balls will be organized.
- Between January 26 and 30, at the CGR in Colmar, a series of projections themes will take place.
- And treasure hunt across the city will take place between January 20 and February 2.
- And spectacle of the Buissonnière school theater association (for young people aged 5 to 15) will take place at the Salle des Catherinettes on Sunday January 26 at 6:30 p.m.
- A exposition will be held at Colmar aerodrome between Friday January 31 and Sunday February 2. There you will find vintage planes.
- The concert of fence will be held at the Saint-Matthiue Church at the end of the day on Sunday.
- At the Colmar exhibition center, reconstructions life size will take up space.
Finally, the big event is the parade of the freedom. For two days, 60 to 80 vehicles
i.e. a convoy 1 km long will travel 120 km and cross 25 municipalities.
