Difficult to make a Draft more tricolor than this 2024 edition! We knew that this Draft could be historic for French basketball, and it was on several levels from the first round for France! First of all, this is the first time that a foreign country has placed two elements in the first two places, and therefore it is about Zaccharie Risacher (Hawks) and theAlexandre Sarr (Wizards).
Then, with Tidjane Salaün, selected in 6th position by the Hornets, this is the first time that a nation, outside the United States, has placed three players in the Top 10 of a Draft. It was also the first time that France placed more than three of its basketball players in the first round of a Draft. Until now, the record was two.
Only Canada did as well in 2018
Better yet, France even explodes this record since Pacôme Dadiet was selected 25th by the Knicks. Only Canada has done as well, and that was in 2018 with RJ Barrett (3rd), Nickeil Alexander-Walker (17th), Brandon Clarke (21st) and Mfiondu Kabengele (27th).
Finally, after Canada in 2013 and 2014, France becomes the second nation to recover the 1st choice two years in a row with Victor Wembanyama in 2023 and therefore Zaccharie Risacher in 2024.
