STREET-HOCKEY – Switzerland has a historic chance to qualify for the 1/2

The street hockey world championships are entering their decisive phase. With a home crowd behind them, the two Swiss teams want to create an exploit.

Switzerland has never reached the semi-finals of a modern street hockey world championship. At the home world championships, the Swiss men’s team will have the opportunity to make history. “We approach the quarter-final against Greece with confidence and are hungry for victory”, declares defender Mermoud. For their part, the Swiss ladies experienced an increase in power during the tournament. After the bitter 0:2 defeat against an efficient Great Britain, the ambitious final 5th place remains within reach in the classification matches.

During the 6th day of the preliminary round of the men’s draw, the last decisions fell. Haiti won 3-0 against the winner of Pool B, Lebanon, and meets the favorite, the Czech Republic, in the quarter-final. Finland clearly beat Portugal 8:0 and now face reigning world champions Canada. The United States’ opponent in the quarterfinals is serial world champion Slovakia. All these high-level matches take place in the Lonza Arena.

The favourites compete for the title

In the women’s draw, the Czech Republic beat Slovakia 9:0 at the end of the preliminary round and won the group stage in a sovereign manner. The favorites also came out on top in the USA’s 7:1 victory over the United Nations team. Thursday morning’s semi-final will be a North American classic between world champion Canada and the United States. The Czech Republic will face Slovakia. These matches will take place at the Lonza-Arena in Visp.
