Saint-Denis-Lanneray. Bruno Konczylo declares his Olympic flame to the students of Saint-Denis Lanneray. After Terry Bouharoua from Dunois, former captain of the French rugby sevens team, it was Bruno Konczylo’s turn to honor the invitation from the Robert-Desnos school group from Saint-Denis – Lanneray. The former French 800m champion and semi-finalist at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 came to attend an Olympic day at the establishment.
After morning discussions on the apprehension of competitions and the values of Olympicism with elementary school students, Bruno Konczylo participated, in the afternoon, in an Olympic torch relay on a secure route of 2, 4 km bringing together all students from the small section from nursery to CM2.
Bruno Konczylo, still loyal to the OCCBA, where he is a manager, was accompanied by another local star: Hugo Béquignon, a basketball player from Pontoise playing in National 1. The families were present in large numbers and encouraged the future champions.
The mayor, Jean-Yves Panais, did not put on the sneakers, but he congratulated the children by praising the benefits of sport, he who played for the OC Châteaudun football team.
Pride
Those in charge of the Parents’ Association did a good deed by purchasing refreshments for the students from the “Tous ensemble pour Robin” association.
Before the presentation of medals offered by the school cooperative, Bruno Konczylo indicated that he had been “very proud to participate in the Atlanta Olympics but also proud to have participated in this Olympic torch relay”.
The ex-international recalled the start of his career: “I lived in La Fringale and, as a member of a family of five children with parents who did not have a car, it was quite complicated to play sport. It was my older sister who pushed me to do athletics in Châteaudun. It was transported at the time by Mr. Marcet, a resident of La Varenne-Ferron. So, I can say that my story started there. »
