Who has never dreamed of showing off on “the square”, an emblematic place for breakdancing near the Halles de Paris where it was held crew of Paris City Breakers, in the early 1980s?
Forced to lower our ambitions, and failing to become the queen of the battle, we decided to try a few moves a little less difficult than headspin (turn on your head, easy !) with one of the French athletes competing for the Olympic breaking qualifying tournaments: bboy Neosan.
Of the’indian step au backspin
Winner of the French Breakdance Cup in 2021, then of Bboy France in 2022, Noé Sobesky, his birth name, agreed to show us a few steps in his rehearsal room at Insep, in Vincennes.
After a warm-up as tiring as a hundred squats and fifty burpees just after a ten kilometer run, bboy Neosan started by showing us the base: a few steps of toprock* as’indian step where the salsa step. Essential for entering a cypher**. Before moving upmarket (and therefore in strength and sweat) with the baby freeze***, the light version of freeze on the shoulder. Then follow up with a backspin****, during which our microphone flew away.
After an hour of uneven testing and involuntary stunts, we preferred to give way to the pro. I promise, next time, we’ll go to the gym to lift a little cast iron before coming, just to be able to start a battle with the champion.
