According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, 5,762 burglaries were committed in Loire-Atlantique in 2023, or around 15.8 burglaries per day. As pointed out West France Sunday November 17, 2024, by counting the number of houses and apartments in the department, we obtain a rate of 7.3 burglaries per 1,000 housing units (therefore 0.73%).
If this rate turns out to be lower than that of Bouches-du-Rhône (1.06%), Gironde (0.87%) or Paris (0.86%), it remains more than twice as high as the national average, set at 0.325%. Loire-Atlantique can nevertheless look forward to a downward trend, with burglaries being 15% less frequent in 2023 than in 2022.

1,556 burglaries (or almost 30% of the total) were committed in Nantes. Certain small towns were nevertheless heavily affected, such as that of Héric (67 burglaries).
However, the figures could be much higher in reality. Conducted in 2022, a survey by the Ministry of the Interior revealed that only 56% of burglary victims filed a complaint. Furthermore, the rate of elucidation of burglaries in the department after one year did not exceed 7% in 2023.
