More than 100,000 people accompanied the Olympic flame this Wednesday in Alsace. From Mulhouse in the morning to Strasbourg in the evening, via Huningue, Colmar, Marckolsheim, Saverne and Lembach. Adored like a rock star, Arsène Wenger, the iconic former Arsenal coach, lit the Olympic cauldron at Place Kléber around 7:30 p.m.

A magical, explosive moment! It makes me think of sport, when suddenly the flame spreads across the bowl, I was impressed. I enjoyed it, I didn’t see the point in running when there are so many people, you have to let people enjoy it too. That’s what struck me the most: there were people everywhere, it was really impressive. It reminds me of the title celebrations and experiencing moments of collective joy like that, I was raised in that, it reminds me that Alsace is a sporting phenomenon. The SIG and the Racing club of Strasbourg are part of our culture, it is inseparable”, said Arsène Wenger on France Bleu Alsace.

The Olympic flame continues its journey this Thursday in the neighboring department of Moselle. She will arrive in Paris on July 26 for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
