The former mayor of Agde, Gilles d’Ettore, indicted for embezzlement and corruption, was released on June 26 after three months of pre-trial detention. The decision comes after his resignation from all his elected mandates.

The former mayor of Agde, Gilles d’Ettore, indicted for embezzlement, illegal taking of interest and corruption, was released this Wednesday, June 26. He had been placed in pre-trial detention since March 21, 2024. The decision of the investigating magistrates comes after his resignation from all his elected mandates on May 31, 2024 and the presentation of an accommodation project far from the department of Hérault.

Gilles d’Ettore’s political career was shattered when a corruption affair involving a clairvoyant was revealed. The latter, a 44-year-old woman is accused of manipulating several people, including the mayormaking them believe that they were communicating with supernatural entities. She is said to have obtained various gifts and recruited members of her family.

Former mayor of Agde released in Dordogne

“The former mayor of Agde is therefore placed under judicial control as of today, with numerous prohibitions and obligations,” according to Raphaël Balland, public prosecutor at the Béziers judicial court. He must stay with a friend in Dordogne and the ban on going to Hérault, leaving the national territory, and coming into contact with a list of specific people, as well as any person linked to the town hall of Agde, to the urban community Hérault Méditerranée, and to the mixed union of the territorial coherence plan of Béziers.

The clairvoyant could also be released

The clairvoyant could also be released soon. A hearing to decide whether his pre-trial detention should be extended was organized this Wednesday, June 26. In view of the decision taken concerning the mayor of Agde, the prosecutor requested the release under judicial supervision of the clairvoyant. The response from the judge of freedoms is expected on June 28.
