Chat with the candidates vying for the legislative elections in Vienna. This was the democratic exercise proposed, Wednesday June 26, 2024, to residents of neighborhoods of Poitiers: at 11 a.m. at the Couronneries market and at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Trois-Cités shopping center. Behind this initiative, the association J’aime la France, j’aime ma ville, chaired by Mahyar Monshipour, who has already organized this format in 2021, for the regional and departmental elections, and in 2022, for the presidential and legislative elections. .

Purchasing power, security, public services…

The first debate, which concerned the first constituency, brought together Ludovic Gaillard (Lutte Ouvrière), represented by Samy Delys, Lisa Belluco (New Popular Front), Séverine Saint-Pé (Horizons) and Aurélien Tricot (various left). Everyone made the trip except Emmanuelle Darles (National Rally) who “made it known that she could not be present”, indicates Abdelmajid Amzil, one of the five founders of the association. This is also the case for Estelle Chevallier during the debate for the second constituency (1).

In front of around thirty people, the candidates had three minutes to respond to various concerns, including purchasing power and public services. “What is your position on pension indexation? »asks a gentleman. “Currently, the public hospital is in a state of disrepair. What concrete things do you propose? », continues a spectator in the front row. Another raises this dilemma: “How to reconcile economic emergency, social emergency and ecological emergency? ». The other questions focused on security, student precariousness or the institutional crisis.

All were also questioned about their voting instructions in the second round in the event of elimination or third place behind the RN. Samy Delys refused to take a position, criticizing the action of governments on both the left and the right. Lisa Belluco indicated that she “would withdraw in favor of the most Republican candidate”. Séverine Saint-Pé “will not give instructions” if it’s not “fight so that the one who is the most republican wins”. As for Aurélien Tricot, his priority will be given “to the candidate closest to his ideas”.

After a final speech, the morning ended with a photo session with the candidates, French flags in their hands. “We are very satisfied with these exchanges without filters and without bias”, welcomes Mahyar Monshipour. The only downside: the audience was more composed of political activists than residents. And this while the ambition of the debate was to mobilize abstainers or undecided people. “We sense disenchantment”recognizes the former world boxing champion, who nevertheless calls for voting on June 30 and July 7.

(1) Agnès Chauvin (Workers’ Struggle), Aurélien Bourdier (various left), Valérie Soumaille (New Popular Front), Gil Beucher who represented Xavier Augay (various right) and Sacha Houlié (presidential majority) took part in the second debate.
