The mobilization of farmers continues at the call of the FDSEA (Departmental Federation of Farmers' Unions) and Young Farmers.
They spare no effort, which shows the despair that reigns in the agricultural world. Since Monday, around fifteen farmers in each canton have been mobilizing to cover the radars. Others station themselves in the evening at the Delta kilometer roundabout to control heavy goods vehicles, transporting products particularly from Spain. “ We want to keep public opinion with us and our freedom », Comments David Sève, president of the FDSEA du Gard.
This mobilization is the second in less than a year. After difficult harvests in Gard and bluetongue, anger is brewing. “ We are already in great difficulty and now there is Mercosur. But the tree that hides the forest… », continues the union representative. The answers, so far provided by the State, do not satisfy the profession: “ The grubbing-up premium will cover 28,000 hectares, but we would like these premiums to be tax-exempt and de-socialized… We also want to return to the agricultural disaster system replaced in 2021 by the national solidarity compensation. »
Meeting this Thursday
For now, farmers continue to cover the radars. “ Most often, we put bags of fertilizer and tires. We call it the Beaucairoise method. », continues the union representative. On Thursday, a meeting of strikers from across Occitania will be held to define the actions to be taken: “ We have the impression that we are not taken seriously… However, the movement is here to stay. »
