A strategic initiative for rural development
In collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a partnership signed last February plans to provide farmers with solar solutions adapted to their irrigation needs. The program specifically targets 51,000 hectares of agricultural land and offers attractive financial support: 3,000 dirhams per irrigated hectarewithin the limit of 30,000 dirhams per operator.
However, access to this aid is subject to certain requirements. Farmers must already use gas cylinders for their localized irrigation systems and have a meter to measure their water consumption.
Cost reduction and environmental sustainability
Adopting solar energy represents an economical and ecological solution. Currently, the high cost of gas weighs heavily on agricultural operations. The switch to renewable energy, abundant in Morocco thanks to its constant sunshine, should significantly reduce farmers’ fixed costs.
In addition to the savings made, this energy transition could, in the medium and long term, result in a reduction in the production costs of agricultural products, thus strengthening the competitiveness of the sector.
Rigorous monitoring to ensure success
To ensure the effectiveness of this initiative, control committees will be put in place to monitor its implementation. This monitoring is a response to the concerns expressed by farmers, particularly in the face of the continued rise in gas bottle prices.
A step towards greener agriculture
This initiative is part of Morocco’s energy objectives to 2030 et 2050which aim to promote the integration of renewable energies in different economic sectors. With this program, the Moroccan agricultural sector could become a model in terms of sustainability, while contributing to the country’s energy independence.
Sector professionals welcome this initiative, believing that it could encourage many farmers to abandon traditional energy sources in favor of more economical and environmentally friendly solar solutions.
By focusing on solar energy, Morocco is paving the way towards sustainable and competitive agriculture, capable of meeting economic and climatic challenges. This program represents hope for farmers and a significant step towards more responsible management of energy and natural resources.
