Paris Tropical Carnival 2024, date and program

The Paris Tropical Carnival returns this year on October 6, 2024 in the capital. This colorful parade takes over the Avenue des Champs-Elysées as soon as the Olympic Games end with a rhythmic parade with music, dances and traditional outfits representing cultures from all four corners of the globe.

Once is not customary, the Carnaval Tropical which usually takes place in July at Paris, sees its 23rd edition postponed until after the summer, given the holding of the Olympic Games. The appointment is given on October 6, 2024to attend this festive event which takes over the most beautiful avenue in the world.

Like every year, hundreds of dancers and around thirty groups of carnival people will parade for the occasion on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées. For this occasion, several associations from Paris and Île-de-France come to parade to proudly represent cultures from the four corners of the globe through traditional outfits and dances.

The Tropical Carnival is part of the tradition of major cultural events in the City. It closes all the overseas cultural programming of the Olympic year, which began on June 1 and 2 with the “Nuit Blanche Outre-Mer” in Paris and the territories.

After the Nuit Blanche, the Olympic Flame journey and relays took place in June in Guyana, Reunion Island, Polynesia, Guadeloupe and Martinique, before returning to Paris. The Flame will stop at Place du Général Catroux, in the 17th arrondissement, on July 15, for a commemoration in the Solitude garden and in front of the Fers Brisés statue.

To close this overseas Olympic period, the Sunday October 6, 2024 was chosen to celebrate the magnificence of the Tropical Carnival in Paris. This year’s theme, ” The Tropics united by Olympism », will undoubtedly inspire the twenty participating troupes from Paris, Île-de-France, as well as Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and the Dominican Republic.

The Paris Tropical Carnival is undoubtedly the biggest festive carnival in the capital. It brings together nearly 200,000 spectators each year for a lively journey. Initiated more than 20 years ago, this carnival which was originally organized by the West Indians of the metropolis, today sees many diverse origins come together such as China, Brazil, England, Holland or even Colombia.

It’s the gathering of hundreds of colorful costumes that come from all over the world, it’s music that ranges from traditional to exotic sounds and it’s also choreographies imagined for the occasion which gives free rein to the groups present to mix history and creativity. It is also a competition which rewards the best performances performed in front of the stand at the end of the course.
