Narrowly saved at the end of 2023, the financing of extracurricular activity times could disappear for good, around ten years after its creation, with the new budgetary tightening announced by the government in November 2024.

“With this reduction of €13,000, elected officials may wonder whether we continue or not”

On Tuesday, November 19, Jean-François Renoux will be one of the mayors who will demonstrate in against these measures, at the call of the Mayors' Association. Its commune of Azay-le-Brûlé is one of those which has retained the four and a half day week (around 10%) and benefits from state aid for the employment of activity leaders. Three facilitators here, “who do a very good job with kindergarten and elementary school students to offer them activities at the beginning and end of the afternoon.”

As such, Azay-le-Brûlé received around €13,000 from the State this year. This is far from covering the expense. Also far from the first years. “Initially, the compensation was 100%. Little by little, we had to manage. »

So far, the effort has been accepted by the municipality. “The question of returning to four days was asked two years ago, we did a survey among parents. » The status quo had won. The mayor says he is rather in favor, personally, of the four and a half day week. “But with this reduction of €13,000, elected officials can put the question back on the table. »
