The French Football Federation has just published the annual evaluation of training centers based on their effectiveness during the 2023-2024 season. A ranking where AS Monaco is in fourth place in Ligue 1 with 3.5 stars. Explanations.
La Diagonale is still among the best training centers in Ligue 1. The FFF has just published the annual evaluation of training centers according to their effectiveness for the 2023-2024 season, and as in 2022 and 2023, that of AS Monaco is still (very) well placed. With 3.5 stars obtained out of five, the Principality club is in fourth place in Ligue 1 behind Rennes, OL and PSG.
A ranking established using several criteria
To establish this ranking, the Federation uses five criteria:
- professionalization (U16 to U23 under professional contract in the first two divisions of the top ten countries in the UEFA ranking and the National)
- playing time in the first team of the training club
- national selections (international matches contested by players, without distinction of nation)
- schooling (diplomas obtained during the previous season)
- European representation (players from clubs with points in the UEFA ranking, with training agreement of at least one year).
Five professional contracts awarded
Among the areas where AS Monaco performs well, we find that of professionalization since a maximum of five stars has been awarded. Further proof that the Academy players are part of the project, as evidenced by the professional signings this season of Aladji Bamba, Amal Boura, Joan Tincres, Jules Bery and Nacim Dendani at the start of last week.
Several professional debuts
#MadeInLaDiagonale players who, for some, then have the chance to make their professional debut like Mamadou Coulibaly, unfortunately seriously injured in the knee during the last day, Lucas Michal and Saïmon Bouabré.
As for Maghnes Akliouche (7 goals, 4 assists), Eliesse Ben Seghir (2 goals, 1 assist) or Soungoutou Magassa (1432 minutes), they have further gained depth under the orders of Adi Hütter and have proved valuable for qualifying for the Champions League.
More than 15 Academy players in selection
In terms of selections, AS Monaco receives 4.5 stars out of 5 and is one of the biggest providers in the championship. No less than 15 of them have in fact been called up at least once during a gathering, some even taking part in international competitions.
This was particularly the case of Saïmon Bouabré and Joan Tincres who finished vice-champions of the U17 World last December. Without forgetting the presence of Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French team or Eliesse Ben Seghir, author of his first goal with Morocco.
14 baccalaureate graduates in 2023
But wanting to become a professional player also implies academic success. And that has made the Diagonale its strength. Because if the results of the 2024 exams have not yet been released, there were 14 of them who obtained the baccalaureate last year. The work is thus done on a daily basis and it was praised by Lionel Rouxel, the selection manager, during his visit to the Diagonale in October 2023.
The structures are good and the people are competent, and this in all areas: sports, of course, but also daily life, schooling, physical preparation… Between 7 a.m. in the morning and 7 p.m. in the evening, a player goes through all the centers and by all services.
