Montreuil (93): the Croix de Chavaux is being transformed and made pedestrian

An emblematic place in , the de Chavaux has for a very long time given pride of place to the automobile. The challenge over the next few months is to transform it in the face of global warming but also to make it more user-friendly for those who would like to stroll around the city center.

It's a bit like the Rond Point de l'Etoile du 93. A road crossroads dating from the 1960s in the heart of Montreuil, and which had the ambition at the time to be attached to a real urban highway. The Croix de Chavaux is a traffic hotspot in eastern .

But faced with the climate challenges of the coming years and also a desire for residents to reclaim this district of the city center, it was therefore decided to pedestrianize a large part of this square. Planting trees and putting an end to this central island in the heart of a roundabout will help calm the intersection. This new open ground will allow pedestrians to move around more peacefully and why not enjoy more of this Croix de Chavaux by stopping there.

The main road axis will nevertheless be retained to ensure traffic between Paris and via Montreuil. Work begins this month and will last a year and a half with delivery scheduled for spring 2026.
