Several deliberations were voted on during the Alençon municipal council, Monday June 24, 2024, to renovate or develop the city’s sports facilities.

The cover of the Alice-Milliat hall

The Alençon sports hall, recently named the Alice-Milliat hall, located in the Perseigne district, has leaks in its waterproofing “which disrupt the smooth running of school and community activities”, summarized Vanessa Bournel, sports assistant. It is therefore planned to install an over-cover in a ribbed steel tray over the entire surface area, i.e. 1,365 m².

The building mainly benefits secondary schools and in particular the Maréchal-Leclerc and Marguerite-de-Navarre high schools as well as the Louise-Michel college. The building is therefore 90% occupied by these schools. The cost of the work is estimated at €190,100, it will be subsidized by the Region (60%), the Orne Departmental Council (20%) and self-financing (20%).

The renovated Mézen gymnasium

Renovation work will be undertaken at the Mézen gymnasium, located on the street of the same name. Built in 1974, it has never benefited from renovation work on the changing rooms, toilets and adjoining premises. “apart from preventive and curative maintenance interventions”, explains Vanessa Bournel. These premises have therefore become very dilapidated.

In addition, the Mézen high school, which mainly uses the gymnasium, “wished that the increase in the number of students in school and the absence of suitable changing rooms to accommodate them be taken into account”. A budget of €450,000 was therefore estimated to renovate this part. The Region will contribute €270,000, the Departmental Council €90,000.

The City is also planning the construction of a five-a-side synthetic turf football field. “latest generation, lit with palisades”, within the Jacques-Fould stadium. “It will be usable in all seasons and for use by the Union sportive alençonnaise 61, the town’s football club,” adds the elected official in charge of sports. It will be located on a grassy eight-a-side football field which is little used because it is impassable in winter. Project amount: €175,000.
