It was the coincidence of the Olympic upheavals that brought Mimos to the start of July. The venerable festival (41 years old) has experienced many upheavals and will recover, even if it was necessary for the occasion to give up its traditional grand opening show. This is because it begins for the occasion on July 3, while the school year is still in progress. But the Périgord festival is flexible: it has been able to adapt to changes in the genre. Originally a bastion of traditional “Marceau”-style mime, he was able to get out of what seemed like an impasse to open up to everything that is silent. Or which has few words. Where the gesture and the body take precedence. In short, gestural theater, dance, circus, mime, indoors or in the street. Because there also lies its resilience: that of having been able to open its programming to the public space.

So this year, there will be more great things. In dance, we do the splits between Gisèle Vienne and “Crowd”, a hypnotic ballet that imitates the possibilities of the image on screen, from slow motion to fast motion. And the young dancers of C ‘Hoari who use Breton folk dances to tell their country. A sign of a very feminine festival this year, which maintains its closing show with the remarkable “Impact d’une course” (Cie la horde dans les pavés), a mix of circus and parkour, a dizzying exercise in urban climbing.

Sweet follies

The myth of Antigone revisited by Lapin 34.

100 km to the west, Rues et Vous finds the grace of the village of Rions, as if specially designed to host shows. A festival disrupted by the lunar decision of its Community of Communes, its main support, to withdraw completely without explanation. But which also reinvents itself without lowering its sail more than is reasonable. Bastion of street arts in the region, in a few weeks he had to put together a coherent program where we find the one who is almost its godfather: Arnaud Aymard (Cie Spectralex), a slightly crazy artist who has a fan base that does not hasn’t left him since the time of his escapades with the Blue Bird and Édouard Baer. He will have two shows on the stage: “Jean-Noël Mistral”, an Occitan poet a little mired in his verses and his coppices; and his latest whim, “Otherwise, are you okay?” », epic and mythological tale with a low view. Since we are in variable dimension mythology, Lapin 34 reinvents Antigone with “Anti…”; the premises of AIAA (artistic and craft initiatives workshop) talk about journalism accurately and without complacency in “Madam, Sir, good evening! » and “The Barnum Effect” (Parts and Labor Company) to develop personally with great bursts of approximate zen. There is also circus (“Zirkus Morsa”), dance (Cie Rêvolution) and plenty of music to get your ears moving (“Taranta Lanera”, electro tarantella). Two evenings in the spirit of Rues et Vous: gentle and turbulent.

Mimos: from July 3 to 7 in Périgueux (24).
Streets and You: July 5 and 6 in Rions (33).
