The Marsa Maroc Supervisory Board, meeting on June 25, 2024, authorized the signing of the concession documents for the East Container Terminal of the port of Nador West Med (NWM) covering a period of 25 years.

This new terminal, with 1,520 linear meters of quay, a depth of 18 meters and 70 hectares of land, will offer 3.4 million TEUs at full capacity, and will eventually be equipped with 15 quay gantries. (STS) and 45 latest generation park gantries (RTG).

To carry out the first phase of the East Container Terminal, which is scheduled to come into service in 2027, Marsa Maroc will commit an investment envelope estimated at 200 million euros. The operator will draw on its operational expertise and capitalize on relationships with global trading partners to ensure the commercial success of the new terminal.

Indeed, Marsa Maroc has successfully positioned itself on the container transshipment market since January 2021, through its presence in the Tanger Med port complex, where it operates Container Terminal 3 (TC3) in partnership with Hapag Lloyd, Eurogate International GmbH and Contship Italia SpA The TC3 reached its full capacity of 1.5 million TEUs just 3 years after entering service.

By positioning itself as the leading operator within the NWM port complex, Marsa Maroc consolidates its leadership in the national port market and strengthens its positioning in the transshipment segment in the Mediterranean, by increasing its container processing capacity to 6.5 million of TEUs including nearly 5 million TEUs dedicated to container transshipment.
