The City of Montluçon (Allier) is setting up an Olympic village for the Games, from July 20 to August 11. On the program: giant screen, supervised and free access activities. A first Dance Festival is also announced, for July 6.

This is the flagship event for summer events in Montluçon, presented at a press conference on Monday June 24. The municipality of Montluçon will celebrate the Games by installing an Olympic village on the banks of the Cher, square Fargin-Fayolle, from July 20 to August 11, every day, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday, and until midnight Fridays and Saturdays, free access.

Color run on July 20

It will be inaugurated with a semi-night color run on July 20, followed by the fireworks show by the Super Cho company. The latter will be played on the water, from the floating multi-sport field that the City will install. “The participating clubs will bring it to life on a daily basis,” promises Alric Berton, deputy in charge of culture.

Giant screen and official mascot

The events will be broadcast on a giant screen, with two notable dates: the opening and closing ceremonies, July 26, at 7:30 p.m., and August 11, at 8 p.m. The visit of the official Olympic mascot is also to be noted for August 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. And a hip-hop show, signed by a major player in the discipline, Thony Maskot, is scheduled for August 3, at 9 p.m.

Eighteen sports associations involved

No less than eighteen clubs will provide supervised activities every day, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. h?30 on Friday. There will be football, table tennis, tennis, badminton, canoeing, cycling, gym, ball-trap, rowing, boxing, wrestling and even rugby.
Other activities will be “self-service”, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.: table tennis, 3×3 basketball, beach tennis, pétanque, speed ball, multi-sports field, home ball, archery, climbing, water activities and athletics track. And tournaments will be organized: football, touch rugby, 3×3 basketball, armchair handball, table tennis, beach tennis. The detailed program is available on the City’s website.

A first Dance Festival. Les Regards chorégraphiques, organized by the French Dance Federation, takes place every year in Montluçon. And 1,300 dancers are expected from July 4 to 7, between Athanor and the Gabrielle-Robinne theater, for the 2024 edition. “Each year, we try to improve the reception conditions to keep the meetings in Montluçon”, explains Alric Berton, deputy in charge of culture. Nine structures (ACC Crew, Françoise Bourdin, Pole Stars, Antlia, Che Tango, Au 3e Danse Studio/Rock’n Starcenter, G’nration Afro Prodig’s, Isadora, Sanaafro) will offer demonstrations and shows in the medieval city. A flash mob will be held at 10:30 p.m., Place Piquand. Everyone can participate: the choreography is available on the City website.

Other highlights of the season

The MuPop (Museum of Popular Music) in Montluçon is hosting the temporary exhibition “Golf Drouot, the birth of the temple of rock (1955-1967)”, from July 6 to January 4. Photographs, posters, musical instruments and testimonies will tell the story of this legendary Parisian club which closed in 1981. This tea room originally experienced a turning point with the couple Colette and Henry Leproux. Eddy Mitchel, Paul Lederman, the Daltons, Long Chris, Nancy Halloway and even Nana Mouskouri played there. The exhibition is curated by Marc Touché and Jean-Luc Rancurel.

The celebrations start on July 13 with a popular ball in Fargin-Fayolle Square, from 10 p.m. to midnight. The next day, the taking of arms is scheduled for 10:45 a.m., Place Piquand, in the presence of the 6th company of the gendarmerie school. The presentation of the City’s medals will take place at 11:45 a.m., on the castle esplanade. The fireworks will be set off at 10:30 p.m., from the Cher square.

World cultures

Trumpeter Ibrahim Maalou is scheduled for July 18, at 8:30 p.m., in Athanor, as part of Jazz au fil du Cher (fee). And in connection with the Gannat World Cultures festival, shows around China and Benin will be presented on July 13, at 8:30 p.m., on the banks of the Cher (free).

Story readings (free) on the theme of sport will take place from July 6 to 20 (times on mediatheque.agglo-montlucon.fr) as part of Partir en Livre.

Down from home continues with free events (digital and new technologies, sciences, arts, leisure, sports) from July 9 to August 8, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays, in Fontbouillant, Wednesdays, in Pierre- Leroux, Thursdays, in Bien-Assis. The mapping on the castle of the Dukes of Bourbon will be held until the end of August, from nightfall until 11:30 p.m. And Bourdonner en Bourbonnais (light drones) will stop on September 7, at the Sault de Prémilhat pond (free).

The second Montlu’Sounds festival will be held at the end of August, at Place Piquand: on the 29th, at 8:30 p.m., U2 Addiction (free), on the 30th, at 8:30 p.m., Cali (paying), on the 31st, at 9 p.m., Totalement Années 80 (paying).
